Today is raw for a couple of reasons.
First, I am craving that feeling.
Second, my digestive system did not like something I ate on Monday night and yesterday for lunch, so I am treating it to an easy digestion day. I actually emailed Melissa because I ate a great tasting Balsamic Garbanzo Bean and Mustard Green dish from blog.fatfreevegan.com and I am not sure what in it didn’t like me, but something didn’t. I would recommend the recipe but I am going to try to figure my body out first.
It could be mustard greens, I have never had them before to my knowledge. It shouldn’t be the broth, onion, garlic, balsamic, garbanzos, etc since I can eat all of those without issue. I haven’t had red pepper flakes since the cleanse, so they may have super charged something in me also. I guess we will see. I plan to try mustard greens in another recipe in the next month or so and see if I have the same issues.

- Vegan Protein Shake with Maca and Greens
- Large (LARGE) Green salad and a giant organic garnet yam, baked, with cinnamon and Earth Balance
- 1/2 pound organic strawberries
- 1/2 red grapefruit
- green Salad with tomato, avocado, onion, red pepper, in grapeseed dressing
- spinach salad and raw kale salad from salad bar at Whole Foods
I got my hair colored and cut today. I did it at a salon. It probably wasn’t “vegan” but I did not change my plans. I will research a vegan alternative to highlights later. I was excited to go, I have not had my hair highlighted since around my wedding 3 years ago. It also needed a cut! Hubby thinks I look smashing!
I didn’t bring enough raw to feel satisfied until I got home, which was late, so I stopped at Whole Foods to get a salad and I ate on the way to the appointment. I wanted to make sure I was good from 5 PM on because I want to hit the hay as soon as I get home. It didn’t work, I was STARVING when I got home, but I didn’t want to eat within 3 hours of bed so I drank a lot of water.
I am still battling my sinuses. It is either a really bad sinus season or it is also part of detox. Most of the drainage has been clear until today. I woke up with a sore throat again and what cleared that area was green so I am dancing with an infection. I cannot wait to go to acupuncture tomorrow after work, I am confident she will be able to help me. Raw today will help, I think, as well. My body will have more energy to fight it. I may do raw tomorrow as well, yesterday I just didn’t have enough. I think it will help.
Raw is something I wish I was better at doing. I get so intimidated to go beyond a piece of fruit or a salad. I know if I can really wrap my hands around variety here (and summer in the midwest is the best time to do it) I will really help my body heal. I need to find comforting raw foods. Grains and beans have become so comforting I need to delve into soaking and sprouting so that I can make dishes with grains and beans that are raw. I wonder if that will make me as comforted.
I got a raw book, I just need to step out of my comfort zone and start trying more recipes. I think that will be a focus when I get back from my trip. Raw and Juicing. That combo should have me hopping with health!
